    Thought this post over at Creating Passionate Users was interesting. What if we did patch nearly daily in our MMOs? Granted, there’s such a higher level of interdependence in virtual world code than in even MySpace’s code that testing would be highly problematic, but perhaps if things are only in the game very briefly, you could minimize that.

    Would MMOs be better run at warp speed, sort of like how riding a bicycle is easier the faster you are pedaling? Hmm.

    The Sex Lives of Cannibals : Adrift in the Equatorial PacificI don’t remember what exactly led me to this book. But I am glad it did. The book is a highly entertaining memoir of a couple of years spent in the Pacific island nation of Kiribati, formerly the Gilbert Islands.

  • More Japanese discussion of A THEORY OF FUN

    And as usual, I can’t read it. Here’s one. And here’s another. This one seems to be pretty positive, but it looks like this other review came out a while ago, and dislikes chapters 9-12 and thinks that “The level which it requires as prerequisite is too high in the beginner” (!) because of the references to graph theory, liberal arts, and so on.

    Allow me to solemnly recommend that if you write a book, that you not get obsessive over reviews, like me. 😛

  • At least it’s great company

    It appears I placed #3 on the list of Wildest Statements Made by Industry Veterans, according to IGN. That means I share space with the likes of Hiroshi Yamauchi, Ken Kutaragi, and Trip Hawkins!

    I woulda thought what I said was at least good for #2, though. I have to admit, though, competition is fierce; Trip beat me out for saying that polygons had no future. At least the single-player games issue isn’t actually settled yet. 🙂
