Nowhere, that I know of. Occasionally you see it on half.com or from third-party sellers; sometimes, for over $200. (Of which I get nothing, of course).

This comes up particularly now because Penny Arcade linked to the book today. But I probably get a couple of inquiries a week about it (thanks for your interest, Karl, Brady, John…).

The good news is that I hope to have news on its renewed availability in the next few weeks.

  1. Spiffy. It’s a good book and a plenty enjoyable and informative read.

  2. How much is my signed copy worth? 😉

  3. @Morgan, I am jealous 😛

  4. Well, I know I’ll be looking forward to being able to buy it for less than it would cost me to go back to college. ~.^

  5. @morgan: a signed copy? you have that locked away behind bulletproof glass, right? 😛

im with sara, i’d love to get my hands on a copy without having to sell my soul.

  6. I’m glad I bought it when I did! It really is not just a good read, but provides some very valuable insights into the understanding of why we like to do certain things while not others, why we get bored of games, etc. It’s quite fascinating honestly.. So yes, absolutely hunt it down if you don’t already own a copy!

    @Morgan: LOL!

  7. I got my copy last year from Amazon UK. But apparently it’s out of stock there. Four new and used from £62.25 (About $120) though…

  8. I’m willing to part with mine at the bargain basement price of only $199.

But if you call within the next 20 minutes it can be yours for only 2 payments of $98!

  9. “How much is my signed copy worth?”

It depends. Hand me $500 dollars and a pen and I’ll gladly part with my signed copy of A Theory of Fun. 😉

  10. Signed copies are worth more? Raph, will you sign mine? 😉

  11. Funny enough, despite having oversimplified the message in the book many times, I think it’s actually worth more than $200 having it sitting on my shelf.

  12. My absolute favorite moment with the book was when I loaned it to my roommate and he came back days later, utterly stunned, going.. “It’s true. It’s all true. It makes sense. That makes my head hurt.” His head hurting is his, ah… colloquial.., way of saying that it made him think. 😛 That half of the book was full of pictures was very helpful in convincing him he could read it.

…on the other hand, there was the professor I loaned my first copy to… and he still hasn’t given it back…

  13. That’s great news! I’ve been looking for a copy of this book for months.
