WoW is now a newspaper blow-in

Richard Bartle reports that

Today’s issue of The Times [London] contains an 8-page pull-out about World of Warcraft, plus a cover disc giving a free account capped at level 20.

The Times! Such august territory was once reserved for the likes of department store catalogs and flyers for electronics sales!

  2. The Times is just another Murdoch rag these days and therefore everything it does and reports on has at least one eye toward enlarging Uncle Rupert’s solar-system sized bank balance. Look out for News International buying a piece of Blizzard in the near future.

On the plus side, at least it wasn’t the Express, who’s proprietor, Richard “Dirty” Desmond is a well-known pornographer. WoW probably wouldn’t be his thing and their usual giveaways are special “conspiracy” editions about Pincess Di funded by Mohammed Fayed.

  3. I wrote to The Times congratulating them on the pull-out.

This morning, I received a reply from Sally Baker, their Feedback Editor, which stated: “Not all our readers were happy about the free game, and I would like to air this subject in my next Saturday Feedback column in The Register”.

So, I’ll be buying that, then.

  4. I noticed oodles of cheap-sleave DVDs (or CD-Roms) on the computer-store counter, with a 14-day trial of WOW for A$2.00 (USD$1.50).

To bad massive magaine went under; it would have been nice to be sent a MMORPG-of-the-month on DVD.
