  • CNN Future Summit

Look ma, I’m on TV. The CNN Future Summit on virtual worlds is supposed to be airing on CNN International a whole bunch of times, featuring a whole bunch of us from the virtual worlds community. The bulk of the show is a panel session at Stanford, as I understand it. I taped my segment in New York, in front of bluescreen and talking into a camera.

    Show times (All times GMT)
    June 13, 16, 17, 20
    Wednesday 14:00; Saturday 6:00, 14:00, 19:00; Sunday 6:00, 19:00; Wednesday 14:00

GMT means, I think, that it’s on tomorrow in some parts of the world. I don’t actually see it listed in my cable box’s schedule, however — World News Asia is on in that time slot. This page may provide a clue for your local showings. In my case, I have to wait until the weekend. 🙂 Note, on my cable box it is just called “News Special.”

  • Monday Mailbag: a new MMO blog, Karma Tycoon

It’s a very light mailbag this week. 🙂 Remember, anyone who wants to drop me a line and maybe get an answer here can send me an email here — be sure to click the checkbox so it goes to me instead of Webmaster. She’ll forward it, but why spam her mailbox…

Howdy Raph, Let me introduce my self, basically an MMO hobbyist going on 20 years+. I currently run a small software shop(procurement related) but decided to start writing some thoughts down. Will publish more over the next couple of weeks as time permits. Would love to hear your opinions on it. archimedian.wordpress.com

The MMO Gamer has tough questions for Entropia, but mostly doesn’t get answers. A prime topic of discussion is their recently announced deal to expand into China. Among the tidbits:

    • 595,000 registered accounts
    • 110,000,000 PEDs were deposited last year (10 PED to the dollar, so $11m [corrected math!])
    • No mention of how much was withdrawn

And of course, this response to the censorship question:

  • Crossing the cultural gap

Word has come that NCSoft will be shuttering City of Heroes in Korea — it’s only been getting around 300 average daily users there, according to the Korea Herald (it has around 300k in NA & Europe). It goes down on July 11th.

This is yet another in the long string of games that have failed to meaningfully cross the Pacific. To date, WoW is still the only truly massive success, with UO and FFXI also on the list as having done at least OK in other territories.

The tops of ornamented lintels, carved
With bevels, claw-feet foyer tables caught
In dust: a prelude silk and parquet smooth
Where children march to pianistic doom.
