Dibbell on NPR

My dad just called me to let me know that Julian Dibbell was on NPR’s Fresh Air program talking about Exploring the Online Gaming World. I haven’t listened to it yet, but hey, when this stuff reaches my dad, you know it’s seeping into the mass consciousness. I guess all those Second Life articles are having an effect. 😉

  1. My dad’s probably younger than your dad, but I think I can safely say he’s probably ignored any and all news that may have reached him concerning video games.

He’s a history buff and I bought him Rome: Total War + Barbarian Invasion a month or so back, so we’ll see if he bites.

  3. That reminds me… I need to find a good submarine warfare game for my dad. Nothing too complex in terms of controls. Something intelligent though. Any suggestions, anyone?

  4. Raph,

I see where your irritation about Second Life overexposure is coming from. Yesterday I caught Dibbell mentioning it. Then there was something in the paper – USA Today I think, I didn’t read the article just noticed it in the coffee shop. And last night I watched a “History of video games” program on CNBC, and there was Second Life again, given the prominence I would have expected for UO, EQ, or WOW. (Although personally it was nice seeing them cover Games for Health in surprising depth as a counter to all the Lieberman/Clinton grandstanding).

  5. I was semi-listening to that program when it aired…

…wait a minute, does that mean I’m some old fuddy duddy? I swear, I’m only 33.

  6. Funny – my mother (who’s a 65 year old librarian) just called me yesterday from work to ask what this whole “Second Life” thing is about. Seems a bunch of librarians were discussing it at lunch…
