Gritty Systems Design for Retention

This talk was delivered at the Austin Game Conference in 2016. The title wasn’t supposed to be the title! It was a description of the broad subject matter when I was discussing it with the conference co-chair, and because I never did give a title in advance, that’s what made it into the program. Oops.

This is a talk mostly about math related to running service games, particularly ones that use RPG mechanics like levels.
