Entertainment Media Council

Blog regular Morgan Ramsay is getting a lot of ink for the newly announced Entertainment Media Council. I had to tell him I was too busy to participate on any boards in formal fashion, but I think the goals are great — it’s worth checking out at their site.

  1. “With interactive entertainment in the midst of a sea change, the need for a navigator is more pronounced than ever,” said Morgan Ramsay, president and chief executive officer at Entertainment Media Council. “We are embarking on a mission to solve the most challenging problems facing the industry today.”

Chaos. Everywhere… See the rise of The Dark Lords of the Compass.

  2. The stated mission of the EMC seems to overlap a lot with that of the ESA and the IGDA. Best case scenario, the EMC founders genuinely perceive a need that these organizations can’t fulfill (or that they’re failing to fulfill). Worst case scenario, they just want to carve a niche for themselves even if it leads to divisionism and in-fighting within the industry.
The individual members of the EMC seem to have a pretty good reputation themselves, but I still don’t know if it’s the former scenario instead of the latter.

Entertainment Media Council is significantly different from other industry organizations. We are the first and only interactive entertainment association to directly support individual entrepreneurs and corporate leaders, and the business disciplines (e.g., licensing, marketing, operations) that have traditionally received only passing attention.
