AGDC07: Startup Lessons from Recent Online Games
Virtual Worlds News has a liveblog.
It’s all very businessy, and therefore likely dull. But hey, if you’re doing a startup in games, maybe you’re interested. 🙂
Edit: Gamasutra has an even more complete transcript.
Edit 2: and here’s another take.

Not dull. Cringe-worthy though. Some comments struck me as naive and idealistic, and of course, every discussion about “startup lessons” always seems to rehash everything more experienced entrepreneurs have said for decades.
The most interesting aspects of the discussion appear to be the financial side of the coin. I’d like to hear/read more about Ybarra’s continuous investment cycle and Hyatt’s fundraising activities.
…and, ugh, business development is not sales. If you’re hiring a sales guy to do B.D., you’re probably hiring the wrong guy. Hire the entrepreneur! But I’ll give him some credit. I don’t think Hyatt’s criteria for the ideal B.D. guy is actually that simple…
