I want to believe, but somehow I doubt any good can come of this.
Unless I can plug an Atari joystick into my laptop, anyway.
Star Control can be viewed as Archon with spaceships. I’d consider Archon to be minor archetype in its own right, on the order of Tempest or Centepede.
I’ve temporarily uploaded Archon Evolution for those of you that missed the download on the official site

Wasn’t Paul Reiche already involved in Archon Ultra?
Woo! I had totally forgotten about this game, and now that I see it’s being resurrected I’m totally stoked, haha.
That is nice; Archon was together with M.U.L.E. some of the first games I got for my Commodore 64 that I played a lot.
EA’s had Archon shirts at the last few PAXes. I’m pretty sure its because the announced the game in development a while ago (part of their “whole new EA” thing that seems to have lead to Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge), but it could have been just “hint, hint, wink”… Let me google: Found this press release from 07:

I guess the new news is that it is much closer to release?
You know, Paul Reiche III is still making games. It’s probably wishful thinking, but I’d like to see what Toys for Bob would do for a remake.
(After they make Star Control III, of course)
Nice. I think it was the first commercial computer game I ever bought, for my old Atari 800.
Wow, I haven’t played this game in a long time, but I have some fond memories. I’ll definitely try it out when it’s released.
