The Sunday Song: This Don’t Groove

March 18th, 2007

No words this week — just music. This is called “This Don’t Groove.” It got that name because when I was first messing around with the riff, I was told that it was kinda square. :) I think  this dates to… oh, maybe 1998 or ’99?

Guitar details:

The tuning is DADGAE. It’s pretty much just a blues riff. The main root chord is played like a C7/9, with most of your fingers on the fifth fret. In fact, much of the song is just moving that chord shape up and down and around. Sometimes it turns into a C11 shape…

Maynard G. Krebs, is that you?
That would rock in the 50′s. You’ve really got to get that time thing down, Raph.

I can see that playing as an opening theme song for a sitcom:) People walking down busy streets and such. Trying to adjust to the big city.

    Nice dynamics in this tune.

I really wish I was brave enough to record as often as you did/do…

I like how all your material has an "abstract" sound.

Definitely ‘did.’ This is a very old recording. Transferred off of analog tape, I believe.

    Really? It sounds beautifully recorded.
