fredshouse.net PARC talk summary

January 27th, 2006

fredshouse.net: the medium that is eating the world is a summary of the talk I gave at PARC yesterday. Interesting that he felt that I was “was trying a bit too hard to be academic and researchy” — yikes, that was one of the least researchy versions of that talk I have ever given…! :)

Anyway, he took pretty good notes on the fly; alas, without all the jokes.

    What is a game?

Raph’s recent presentation at PARC got me thinking about what games are. I figured some of you might find the topic interesting as well.
I begin with the question, “what is a game?”

You probably hit that undesirable dip, where it’s not academic and researchy enough for the audience, and too academic and researchy for the usual suspects.

Good insight Michael, that’s actually how it felt to me but you said it perfectly. It wasn’t academic enough to be a typical research talk, and the kids I brought wanted to hear more about UO and SWG. Still, goodness. (And thanks for the link Raph!)

arr, the link seems to be broken. Is it perhaps available elsewhere?
