For those counting, that means 1.5% of the population of the planet.
Raph, is that your statement or Sulka? Surely you didn't intend to make a real connection between Habbo's numbers and the number of people on the planet playing it? Your site is too influential for the over-hypeness contained in this post to go unquestioned.
The 1.5% was mine, not his.
There's little doubt in my mind that the registrations include a very large amount of dupes, if that's what you are getting at. And it doesn't mean actives at all -- just customers touched. I nonetheless think it is a highly significant milestone for virtual worlds in general, as it represents a truly significant amount of penetration.

Sulka Haro just forwarded along a press release stating that Habbo has reached 100m registered users worldwide. I don't know too much about Habbo, does each avatar mean a unique user? They seem to be pretty confident about "new users" and not "new accounts" too.

The press release seems to jump between “users” and “avatars”, “Habbo Reaches 100 Million Registered Avatars” but “growth of nearly 20 million registered new users”.

I don’t know too much about Habbo, does each avatar mean a unique user? It’s a neat idea for an advertisement, and Raph draws on a few numbers to make the interesting point that Line Rider might be better known than the TV shows that host this advertisement. Also from Raph, word that Habbo has reached 100m registered users worldwide.
