I mentioned this already in my post on GDC talks, but I wanted to call out Jon Blow’s very cool session entitled Nuances of Design, which he has written up over on the Braid blog. Basically, most times you go to GDC and watch people with Powerpoint presentations about games or at best videos of games.

But Jon is doing something different — he’s asking some of us to actually have games on hand, and he’s going to provide every person who walks into the room an installer so they can play the games as we talk about them.

I suspect this means that I will get to watch an entire room of people unable to flap their wings in Andean Bird. I have a new version with nicer graphics, somewhat easier flight, a bit more polish… I was up until 2am last night making sure it was OK to put in front of dozens of people. Then I remembered I had shown it to thousands right here when it was nothing but line art. 😛

Sometime after the session, I’ll get version 0.5 posted up here. I figure, five more versions and I have to “ship” it, right?

I can’t want to see Rod Humble’s games either — he’s the guy who turned me on to Blitz as a good game prototyping tool, actually.

I was also up because we had a small house flood yesterday. My office is now in the living room. I have no idea where we’re moving this bookshelf to. Sigh.

Better than a house fire. Worse than no disaster at all.

Against the ceiling like the rest? 😉

You could also move a bookshelf or two of business-related books to your Areae office. If you need any help, give me a shout!

  2. Very cool indeed! Sounds like you are going to have a blast!
