VirtualWorldlets is reporting that the bank that provided the service has been dropped from the larger MasterCard network. Therefore, Entropia can’t use them as an ATM provider anymore. The reason?

MasterCard’s action came after the New York Community Credit Union and the card provider, CardOne Plus, had a series of run-ins with a regulatory body, the Financial Institutions Commission of British Columbia, which, in its fourth and last action, a penalty order, called North York a “rogue financial institution” having “shown complete disregard for the laws of British Columbia.”

According to the article, MindArk is in talks with another bank to get up and running with the ATM cards again.

  2. Well no students for office hours and North York is fairly close to where I live…first blurb has the rogue financial institution quote, second is about the hearing.

In a nutshell: an Ontario Credit Union receiving deposits in British Columbia. Given the interesting dynamic between provinces I’m not surprised. Reinforces the 2 things I learned shortly after emigrating to Canada. Everyone outside of Ontario hates Ontario; everyone outside of Toronto [especially the rest of Ontario] hates Toronto 😉

Whatever replacement organization Entropia gets better steer clear of Canadian bureaucrats 😉

  3. Wow thats “like totally” worse than how Northern Californians despise Southern Californians (but we gladly sell them water at inflated prices 🙂 like you know “fer sure n’ stuff”.

Hmmm its a cool idea, looks like they might need bigger partners though.
