Dani Bunten named to AIAS Hall of Fame – News at GameSpot

To this day, M.U.L.E. is my favorite game ever. I have a major soft spot for Seven Cities of Gold as well. I have both of them running in emulation on my phone, actually. I made the head of programming for the Sci-Fi Channel light up with glee when I showed him that.

I never got to meet Dani, alas. The first GDC event I went to was the one she had to cancel because she was ill. She passed away just a few months later.

I’ve lost count of how many times I have pitched “M.U.L.E. Online.” A lot.

  1. Definitely well deserved. Dani/Dan was very innovative and M.U.L.E and Seven Cities kept me entertained for many years. Nothing quite like a cut-throat game of M.U.L.E. between 4 human players!

  2. Yes, well deserved. I remember cutting another notch in my 5 1/4 Elephant floppy to turn it into a double-side disk so Seven Cities could create a whole world on the back! That and M.U.L.E. are two of my favorite games ever.

Raph, how do we get them on our phone!!?

  3. There are Atari 8 bit emulators for a variety of platforms. I have a Windows Mobile phone, and there’s an ARM-compatible version. That’s pretty much it. 🙂

  4. for some reason, I totally forgot all about seven cities, despite it being one of the most played games ever on my appleii+… gonna have to find a way to get it up and running on xp – raph, do you have any links that might help?

  5. Just Google for Atari 800 emulation. You’ll need your own ROMs, of course. I still have a working 130XE, plus all my original disks (!).

  6. You know me and my love for M.U.L.E. and Danielle. I am so happy you made a post about it. She deserves all that and even more.

  7. I still have an Atari 400, 800, and 800XL I just can’t get rid of. “Why do you still need these?” my wife asks…
