The weather

January 22nd, 2007

Hurricanes in Scandinavia. Ice in Austin. Snow in Malibu. And now, an inch and a half of snow in Tucson and Phoenix.

I think we broke it.

It is a nice sight to see. Of course I live in Tucson with the preference of having snow where I can easily travel to it, instead of it coming to me.

No snow at my house, but the area around my work is nicely blanketed (or was this morning, much of it has melted now). The parking lot was half empty and I’m told several schools in town have closed on account of that inch or so of snow :) .

Now, hopefully none of the kids who had their schools canceled down there today move to Canada any time soon. They’ll expect no school every day in the winter.

Oh wait… we broke Canada too.

Ahh… so nice to live in a region with such unpredictable weather that we don’t notice abberations. About the only strange weather here that would raise eyebrows is a consistent 3-day forecast.

About time we, as the ones ruling the planet, begin do some work towards global warming. Thats for sure. If not, our planet, including US, might be nerferd back to the stone age within few years..

    Not good.

    Definetly broken.

Early january we had +16 C (60.8 F) when we were supposed to be at -10 C (14F) in Canada. At the same moment we were hearing about snow storms in the US. I personally don’t like to shovel snow but it still felt very weird to see green grass in january.

I found this excellent layman’s explanation of global warming.

I don’t know if it’s too early…or too late…to say this, but “Oh Shit!”

    here

    Trying again on the link.

On the possitive side, there’s a possibility that the ocean currents, after cooling and slowing and allowing for an ice age to start as well as the equatorial regions to get hotter, will pick up steam again due to the heat at the equator and bring the world back to what we are used to.
