Earth Eternal is announced

January 10th, 2007

Earth Eternal is the new MMO from Iron Realms, which of course runs Achaea and other text-based games. The graphics look charming and given their experience, I expect the gameplay to be pretty solid — and like their other games, it’s going to be free to play, with upsells for in-game items. Looks like quite a competitor to Runescape, in that case. Worth checking out.

I love the fact that this is a FAQ:

So many MMOs run out of money before release. Will you?
No. We’re completely funded, to the point where we can release and then operate for months with absolutely no revenue if need be. Earth Eternal will be released, period.

A new mmo from Iron Realms is soon to be released called Earth Eternal. Looks to compete against Runescape. Heard this from Ralph Koster’s site. It looks quite nice with lots of eye candy.

[...] That is what I liked about the Earth Eternal announcement: they have the money and are not talking about vapor four years away (H/T Raph). Let’s have a cheer for companies for companies that are not seeking useless attention! [...]

Looks like fun. Bandicoon, here I come.

I want to be that high level badass who can do everything. But I want to precast goddammit.

At least they have houses. And items you can drop on the ground. So you can decorate your house. Sweet.

We used to get that a lot too. It’s been 4 years since we announced at this point, and we’ve gradually transitioned over from “That game is vaporware” to “I’m looking forward to that” in the forum posts that bring up PotBS.

I’m looking forward to Eternal Earth. :)

    A sign of the times.

What percentage of MMORPGs run out of funding before they’re shipped or shortly after? What percentage of MMORPGs are shipped because they’re just about to run out of money?

for example, Vanguard: another 6 months and it might have been a great game. By cutting off funding and forcing Sigil to ship it now, SoE has basically guaranteed that Vanguard will be dead on arrival.

I love that FAQ quote too. I may try and play Earth Eternal, as I have not experienced any of Iron Realms’ games.

Less than the number of new and innovative ideas that get washed by the wayside because the money in the industry only looks for the next WoW. Matt, Good Luck to you, with the funding out of the way I hope you can create something that truly shines. I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

Looks good cant wait to give it a try, I like the concept also

    @Joe

Seriously, I really can’t wait for PotBS, Ive been following it awhile now.

I love the idea of the house and the decorating. It sounds like it could be a girls’ game just as much as a boys’ game.

The question I’ve sent to Matt is whether the Groves can be moved, sold, traded, transferred so that a real estate market could be developed.

Cute, free, we will be trying it. My wife is willing to play based solely on the waving, bouncing mushroom in the corner.

Just out of curiosity, how much money does an MMO need in order to prosper? I’ll define prosper as making a profit while having enough money for the game to evolve (as a static MMO would be doomed over time). I know that its a rather vague question but I’m still curious ;)
