The Sunday Doggerel

December 17th, 2006

When I named the company Areae
I picked a name you can barely say.

And in truth it was no surprise
When others started saying Areae…

But even then it seemed to me
That most would call it AreaE.

But really… who cares? Odds are
You’ve typed it and read it so far.

Or typoed it, at any rate. :)

Well, should you ever get tired of all the “How do you say that?” you can fall back on some alternates for Areae:

      My pirate name is:

      Calico Sam Bonney

Often indecisive, you can’t even choose a favorite color. You’re apt to follow wherever the wind blows you, just like Calico Jack Rackham, your namesake. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Get your own pirate name from piratequiz.com.part of the fidius.org network

      Your Japanese Name Is…

      Senichi Sasaki

      What’s your Japanese Name?

Areae in elvish is Beren Alcarin.

Makes me wonder if this Terra Nova aricle from September had any influence. Probably not, due to the speed of business registration with the government.

      Wii.

I didn’t know smilies rhyme with “rate”?

No, I left off the obvious “teh h8″.

???? That one makes no sence to me hehe, But I am Brazilian…

acmtalk, it relies on the fact that the word Areae can be pronounced several different ways. I am betting you read it always with the Brazilian pronunciation. :) Everyone seems to be commenting on the name and how it is hard to pronounce, you see.

Each line rhymes — that’s the key to reading it.

I think I’lll call it Area ‘E’, due to the secrecy involved like all MMORPGs at this stage. Hehehe

Very clever! So are you going to give it an “official” pronunciation that we can all use? In my humble opinion, I rather like the first version where it rhymes with “say”. Amaranthar does have a point though… LOL! =)

Raph, you are featured in the profile of the week on the VirginWorlds podcast this week. They talked about Areae so I did hear it said this week, at least by one person.

      Wii. Touareg. Areae.

It’s the hip thing to do, I think.

      Congrats!

Sounds like an interesting venture, so am looking forward to other announcements.

As for the name, Areae does sound “beardy”. It probably not a suprise that your potential customers are influencing and shaping your company’s name!

Area E definitely sounds “gamey”, so I think the next fight is going to be between the Areae crowd vs. the Area E crowd!

Raph, you got a heck of a team of advisors, financial backers, and of course a production pro. Launch something soon.

Oooo, exciting! A new shiny world to be born!

I pronounce it areh-aaaah-eh (closer to IKEA in swedish, but not as pronounced and repeating the last E in IKEA… or maybe not. No, I was wrong. That’s not how they pronounce IKEA… :-)

You should record all the phonetic variations and create a song out of it. :P
