Raph… SWG was my first MMORPG and I really enjoyed the time I spent playing with friends and family. I became the owner of 10 accounts, all my kids played this game with me including my wife, brother and relatives. I invited more than 20 friends to play this game with me. As you know now the game has changed to CU then to NGE. I did not realize how important this MMO was to me and my family. This game really change my life and the way I see things. Now I wish there is any hope in saving this game. 90% of the community want to play again SWG but they want the Pre-CU. How hard is for SOE to bring back Pre-CU?
You dont have to answer but many players have faith that SOE will reconsider and bring back Pre-CU system.

Actually I thought of a perfect solution! Raph could start a thread on SWG/NGE/CU in an incredibly convoluted academic manner (a stretch for him I’m sure) and then the kids will have a SWG thread to post to and leave us to our discussions. Every so often Raph or one of us could pop in with a vague confusing point that they could then feed off for a while. When it slips too far off the front that they post back in non-related threads he can put up another post just repeating questions the spammers put in the first thread. Keep the Trolls in your dungeon so they do not get into your living room!
Q knows how to get stuff done. Give him a bat and set him to guard the door =)
I am sorry for bringing the SWG Pre-CU topic, I really respect Raph Koster Blog page and I am not posting in it anymore, so please put the bat down. I been deployed in Iraq for a while; I really miss a great game, I miss the good times playing SWG Pre-CU, I miss my old friends. This is our last hope to get Pre-CU since we assume LA/SOE contract may end soon.
See, this is why I don’t catch colds anymore. Too annoying. 
Seriously, though, there is this amazing nose spray they invented a few years ago. I wish I could remember the name of it. My doctor gave some to me when I came back from Portugal with The Unnamed Malady that Made My Throat Raw And Put Spots On My Arms. It’s prescription-only, and it seriously just makes all of your runny nose and post nasal drip problems vanish. I didn’t want any of the codeine he gave me. I threw it out. All I needed or wanted was the magic nose spray. I need to find out what it was, because I absolutely recommend it.
(It was NOT Flonase. Don’t like that stuff.)
That’s rough Q. I wouldn’t want the people who feel strongly about SWG to be misled and corralled. I feel for them, I too have invested much in games and then had my bubble burst. I know their pain.
I just wish they would keep it where it belongs and am fine with ACE’s apology.

After that who knows… Maybe we’ll all get lucky and SOE will realize the blunder that they made and do the right thing, I don’t know. But what I do know is that with the NGE in effect, SWG is doomed and there isn’t enough in it to save the game. SOE bit the big one in November and will be paying for it for the rest of they careers.

Y’know, since this topic has been heartily derailed, i can’t blame Raph for not talking about SWG. Pre-CU was unfinished and unbalanced. Post-CU was unfinished and unbalanced. NGE is unfinished and unbalanced.
Basically, a shitty implementation of a decent design (albeit asking for trouble with a possible 665 maxed character templates).
Play EQ. Or WOW. Or EVE. Or anything. It was the people you’re missing, not the game.
It always is.

Rough is what I do Grimwell. I was in the middle of building a Jedi so I feel the pain too. This is not the place to discuss the matter and it’s been said by Raph himself several times over. Their behavior shows no respect for the man or his home. Exemplified by Ace’s post after your acceptance of his apology and vow not to post on the matter again. =) These are spammers and should be shown the same lack of respect they show for Raph.

Cael to be honest I am playing ALL MMORPGs and I can prove it to you, even Rose Online. I am heading to the store to pre-order RF online to get on the beta program. There is no MMORPG out there that compares to SWG Pre-CU (PVP), yes I miss my friends but I miss the old code too; I like to hit other players with a bat like Q does.
Q I have a solution so we all can live in peace in the space continuum, find me Rich Vogel and tell him to release the old pre-cu server code. What it will take for someone to buy the SWG Pre CU code and make a legal server? Money for me is no longer an issue.
BTW the guy has cancer and he we wanted to play Pre-CU one more time; SWG Pre-CU it’s just a game right, then why we can’t play it?

You can’t turn back the clock, Ace. Seriously, I had a ball of a time playing UT at LAN parties back when…but if I got the same group together to recreate that, it wouldn’t have the same magic.
Just keep chasing the newest shiney. Or wait for the now-underground SWGEMU team.

Someone explain this to me, how is that Starcraft still selling on stores? If you are a genius you will be able to answer this. It’s Starcraft an MMORPG or a Game? Or its just a fun game. Go to any software store and you will see it on sale. SWG Pre-CU proved to be an outstanding game, players where proud of playing this game, servers where always full with a great economy. Can you imagine selling Jedis on eBay for $2000.00, yes this was true, the economy was incredible, the players where the SOE best representatives, during Pre-CU I saw players inviting their friends to join a great game. I just want to understand how an unbalanced game had so many players, and they all keep their subscriptions just to ensure their houses will stay while they where trying other games i.e. WOW just to return back to keep playing SWG Pre-CU. I understand that the gaming business is really dynamic, you must stay ahead of the competition to survive and make profit, but why not to listen the community and the player base? “Because changes are necessary” is a really bad excuse from the SOE president. The only issue with Pre-CU was balance during PVP, I am not a programmer but I think there must be a solution to this balance issue. (Like using a critical hit system, using the max of the weapon)
I just wonder who is giving all this bad advice to the SOE president. Its clear to me that no one is paying attention to history, CU made many players leave the game and now NGE is even worst making more players leave the game. Its clear to me that NGE will not save the game, no matter how many new accounts SOE gets from it with the false advertisement, NGE is destine to fail.
CadetUmfer I don’t want to turn back the clock, I just want to make a better future, I want to be able enjoy my favorite game. I am willing to pay a fortune just to be able to play Pre-CU. Like I mention money is not longer an issue for me. If I have to start a new game company to get Pre-CU then I will do it.
Why SOE at least try a beta test Pre-CU server? I bet it will be full in less than 5 min and I am sure WOW servers will be empty in less than 1 min.

This is not the place. You’re not going to get any of the answers you’re looking for here. Sorry.
SWG was never accepted by the masses as a good game. Whatever the reasons, at least 7/10 people who played it said it was crap. I would say more because I never remember a time in SWG (except for early launch) when the whole playerbase wasn’t complaining about how bad it was, despite still playing it. SWG was always like that. Starcraft was a “sucess,” which is why it’s still around. Pre-CU SWG wasn’t a sucess, so it’s gone, even if it was better than the current SWG. Another major revamp is possible, but reverting to the old game is unlikely except as a worst-case scenario because they stuck with it for 2 years and saw that it clearly wouldn’t become a sucess if things stayed as they were.
Move on. I admit, SWG used to be a major part of my life, but it’s ridiculous to think that, just because a game that most of humanity never played is gone, life has suddenly become far worse. Chances are whatever attracted you to pre-CU SWG in the first place (Community Activities, probably) are available in a better and more meaningful form in the real world. It may not look it, but they’re there, because other people who haven’t even heard of MMOs long for them too. In actuality, the fact that this sort of MMO never worked well shows that it’s something that only a select few individuals need who haven’t managed to find what they seek in the real world. Everything you ever loved about SWG is out there. A game will never be as good as life. Just search. Or, if, after much sweat, your search fails you, you can always build that which you are looking for.
Sorry guys, but I am just not going to discuss it here. There’s no point in debating it here, and if the debate continues, I’ll be obliged to start zapping comments. Part of the deal with a blog like this is that it stay away from commenting on company business.
