I added a button to the sidebar on the right so that all of you Johnny-and-Jane-come-latelies can go see what I am referencing constantly, and get a taste of why I say that MUDs are basically the same as MMORPGs, and have a look at old-school text gaming. Let me know what you think. ![]()
For those who don’t know, the theme of LegendMUD is “history the way they thought it was at the time.” It would probably be impossible to do Legend in graphis, because the art investment would be far too high: the game has everything from Celtic Ireland and the sidhe, to World War I and biplanes, all conveniently reached via time travel. If the inhabitants of a region depicted believed in dragons, well, then, there will be dragons. If they instead were more into baseball, well, then you’ll find a functioning baseball game.
For the old UO vets, a piece of trivia is that three designers and one programmer on UO came from LegendMUD; Damion Schubert of M59 and Shadowbane is credited on Legend as well, as “Heretic.” See if you can spot the individual bits of Legend design that have made it from game to game and pop up today in new guises… off the top of my head, moods and badges stick out.
